Name: She's called Secret for short, as her full name is ridiculous.
Series: Keychain of Creation
Canon Standing: The most recent story update (#382)
Age: Late teens, however since the calendar in the setting has 55 more days in the year, I suppose this would put her in her early twenties in regular years, or at least close. Either way, she looks like she's in her teens.
Birthday & Astrology Sign: August 24th, Virgo
Arcana: Death
Personality:
Secret is surprisingly perky and well adjusted for someone imbued with godly power for the sole reason of bringing about the end of existence. And this makes sense, considering that she has renounced her fate and is rebelling against her masters - trying to find a way to change her purpose. Often snarky and sarcastic, Secret is rarely outright malicious, though she does have some vindictive tendencies. A girl in her late teens, she does often desire to have fun, look nice, and generally enjoy life, even though she realizes that, as an Abyssal Exalted, the chances of this are unlikely.
Her desire to enjoy life and do normal teen girl things is, of course, complicated by her nature. As an Abyssal Exalted, she is cursed such that if she tries to do nice things or create, she draws the ire of her masters, which eventually causes things around her to die. This puts something of a damper on things. That said, however, she tries to make the best of it, putting her death-dealing talents to use upon bandits, monsters and the like, saying: "I don't like it and I want to change it... But until I do, it's my destiny to bring death to Creation and I'd much rather kill people who deserve it rather than, inevitably, harming someone who doesn't deserve it."
Despite being exalted, and thus having the ability to be leagues and bounds above mortals in every conceivable way, Secret has less than great self esteem. She doesn't really think much of herself, and is given to lament her seeming uselessness. This oddity makes sense when one realizes that she measures herself by the people around her, and the people around her for all of her Exalted life have been extraordinarily capable, even for Exalts. Combined with the fact that she never really did as well as was expected of her when training to be a Deathknight, this has lead to some serious self-esteem issues. Her sentient sword doesn't help matters, often making disparaging remarks about its master. Because of all this, Secret has a strong drive to prove herself. She wants to contribute to the team, and works hard to do so.
Backstory:
Early in Secret's life, at around the age of five, her mother died. Her father, a sailor, was away at the time and her other family members completely ignored her existence. For four years, she lived more or less alone, doing whatever she had to do to stay alive. Finally, around the end of the fourth year, her father finally managed to find the poor girl.
So that he wouldn't lose her again, he had Secret stow away on his ship - disguising her as a boy, as the sailors were very superstitious about girls. After a long voyage, they reached her father's home port, where he found a home for her, away from the eyes of the sailors, where she could remain hidden. For a time, life was decent enough for the girl. This changed tragically, however.
Secret, as she grew up, became curious about the world around her, and started to slip onto ships docked at the port, spying on people. One day, she was caught. When nobody claimed her, not even her father, the officer who found her decided to sell her into slavery. Terrified of the prospect, Secret, to her own surprise, managed an escape and ran back home. Infuriated with her father, she ceased talking to him or seeing him. After two years, he ceased visiting her. Becoming somewhat worried, Secret wandered into town, searching for him. What she saw was a town in the grips of a deadly plague - eventually finding that her father had passed away without her knowing. Sadly, by going to the town, Secret contracted the plague as well.
As the last person on the island to contract the disease, she was also the last left alive. As her life finally began to slip away from her, she heard a voice. It knew of her fear of death, and it offered her a deal. Her name and eternal servitude for great power and a way to cheat death. In this way, Secret gave up her real name and was made an Abyssal Exalted - a shard of divinity bound to her soul and given the destiny of bringing destruction to Creation until nothing remains.
She waited on the island, performing last rites for the dead and helping their ghosts move on to the afterlife. Eventually, a boat came for her, carrying upon it two powerful Exalts; The Labyrinth Walker and King of Uncloaked Steel. They were to be her teachers as a Deathknight, and took her to the underworld to serve under her new lord.
However, it quickly became apparent that Secret did not have much natural aptitude for the things she was being taught. Though, as an Exalt, she was more talented than a mortal human, when she was compared to other Exalts, she came up short. After being bounced between multiple masters and teachers, she finally decided that her destiny to become a Deathknight was wrong for her, and fled.
Her lord, not pleased at all with this desertion, sent his strongest minion for her - the King of Uncloaked Steel. However, he did not foresee that King also had been planning on deserting, and joined Secret as soon as he found her. King longed for fights to challenge his strength, and before long, he left Secret, claiming that her help was making things too easy. As he left, he gave his magic blade, Cluivnarihe, to Secret - saying that she had earned the right to wield it when she decided to turn her back on her former master.
Not long after this, Secret joined a band of three other Exalts; Misho, a powerful sorceror and Solar exalt; Marena, a nearly unequaled socialite and Lunar exalt; and Ten Winds, an old and wizened monk on a quest to learn for himself if the exalts other than the Terrestrials like himself are as evil as he had been taught. Their goal is to secure the five Keys of Creation, which if Secret's old masters were able to obtain, would surely cause the end of the world by freeing ancient and terrible monstrosities from before time.
The quest that they pursue has taken them across Creation, opposed at all turns by Terrestrial exalts, Secret's former comrades, alchemical robots, and exalts hiding in the shadows and working their own machinations. Things, all in all, go rather decently for Secret as she gets used to the other members of the group - trains under Ten Winds, is taught the arts of subterfuge by Marena (well, Marena tries to teach her subterfuge - Secret seems to simply be inept at it), and is inspired by Misho. She improves slowly but surely, both in body and in mind - becoming more sure of herself. However, from time to time there are occasions that make her truly question how far along she has come.
One of the most pivotal moments in her life so far has happened somewhat recently. Both Secret and Marena asked Misho to teach the secrets of Sorcery to them. For this, however, they had to go through a series of trials: to learn humility, to go on a journey, to find tutelage, to overcome fear, and to make a sacrifice. Both of the two had already performed the first three trials, but the remaining two were by far the hardest. For Secret, Misho summoned the ghost of her father, forcing her to confront her troubled past and regrets thereof. Secret and her father finally managed to tell each other the things they had left unsaid, despite how hard it was to do. This was a powerful catharsis, as was the revelation that her father told her: there were rumors that Abyssal exalted used to be the great and heroic Solar exalted, and that there may yet be a way to return to being a Solar. This has given her something to reach for, a new hope in her dark existence. After this, she was able to make her sacrifice - destroying the amulet that was all she had to remember her father by.
Unfortunately, sorcery has been rather difficult for Secret to learn, as have been many things in her life. It is very easy for her to lose control of the magic that she tries to weave, which can lead to bad things. As such, she doesn't really use sorcery at all yet. She is also being taught in martial arts by Ten Winds, but her progress with this has also been faced with problems, and she has not yet fought with martial arts - instead relying upon Cluivnarihe.
Canon Powers:
Enhanced resilience and healing - Exalts can survive things that would easily kill a mortal, and can easily heal the most grievous wounds over time. Physical
Enhanced strength and dexterity - Exalts can lift objects and weild weapons that no mortal could dream of, and move with the grace of the divine. With this, Secret can wield the massive Cluivnarihe, parry blasts and punch rivers in half - I shit you not (though. admittedly for Secret, a task of this level does require quite an expenditureand really tires her out, unlike how relatively simple it would be for Ten Winds). Physical
Enhanced perception - Exalts are given perceptive abilities that far surpass those of mortals. Mind
Dodge charms - By making use of Essence that is drawn from Creation (or in the case of Abyssals, from Oblivion and Death), Exalts can perform feats that are truly epic - these are called charms. Secret heavily favors dodge charms, which allow her to dodge literally any attack. Period. Arrows shot by expert bowmen? Dodged. Area of effect attacks, like explosions? Dodged. Attacks that magically cannot possibly miss, striking through space and time to hit their target? Yep, them too. An Exalt with dodge charms could stay dry in a hurricane by dodging the raindrops. This is the power that I expect will need to be nerfed by far the most, as while it is not broken at all when dealing with other Exalts (this sort of thing is normal for them), this shit is probably waaaaaaay fucking overpowered in this game. Almighty
Essence Arrow Attack Charm - Secret can use arrows imbued with Essence. These arrows carry power equivalent to one fifth of the magic in the philosopher's stone, or in Excalibur. Dark
Supernatural weaknesses (as these are noteworthy):
All of Secret's abilities (other than her healing, perception, resilience, strength, dexterity, etc) are powered by Essence. While most Exalts can regain Essence over time, as they simply absorb it from existence around them, Abyssal exalts like Secret can only regain Essence in this way while in a land that is metaphysically tied to the underworld or death. Other than that, the only way to restore essence beyond the small amount that every exalt generates by them self is to drink blood or eat flesh.
Resonance: Abyssal exalts are champions of death and oblivion, and if they turn upon their calling, their masters show their ire. BY acting against their nature, Abyssals build up Resonance. As Resonance builds up, eventually the Abyssal will be punished by their masters - this takes one of four forms
Abyssal Exalts also are nauseous and uncomfortable in the lands of the living, which can only be solved by surrounding themselves with things ritualistically associated with death. Secret, for example, sleeps in a coffin, wears all black, etc.
Canon Weapons|Items:
Cluivnarihe - a sword made out of the magical material soulsteel, Cluivranihe, when in its sword form, is about as long as Secret is tall. It has the ability to transform into two other forms. The second form is a bow, and the third is a form that allows it to be carried mostly inconspicuously by the wearer, even changing size to fulfill this purpose. For King of Uncloaked Steel, this shape was as a bracer, and for Secret, it is a belt. Whenever Secret transforms Cluivnarihe into a bow, she must feed it some blood, or it will attempt to stab her in her sleep.
Canon Allies:
None of this sort
Canon Baggage:
Clothes, Cluivnarihe. That's about it, really.

Okay, so... chosen soul, destined to do battle and determine the fate of the world, etcetera, etcetera. Same old, same old. What I want to know is what's up with this whole "car" thing is about. How does that work?
Also, you have no idea how lucky you guys are with this whole "you get magic for free" thing.
Really, really lucky.
3rd Person | Prose Example
Secret was having a bit of a hard time getting used to this new place. Though as an Exalt, she was used to many ridiculous and extraordinary circumstances, the whole "visiting another world" one was very new to her.
Walking down the street, she saw architecture that was strang to her, and magic being used everywhere she looked. She couldn't help but think that this must have been kind of what the First Age was like. The thought was easily contradicted, however: the essence here was strange and she didn't even want to begin thinking about the metaphysical implications. All that in mind, though, she was still doing rather well. The offer to help show the value of mankind was a great comfort to her - an opportunity to change her destiny, to help protect life. The Resonance would be a problem, but she would find a way to deal with it. She had a chance to redeem herself, to act like the Solar she could have been.
And she wasn't about to let that go.

As Resonance builds up, eventually the Abyssal will be punished by their masters - this takes one of four forms
- Blight - Creation dies a little around the Abyssal. Animals die, plants wither and flames candle-size go out withing a couple yards. The more resonance built up by the Exalt, the worse the effects get. The maximum level that Secret can achieve would cause this to occur in a thirty yard radius, cause holy symbols to burn, terminate pregnancies, and snuff out fires bonfire-sized or smaller. Also it kills one person who she likes.
- Branding - The Abyssal's unholy nature shows through, unnerving the people around her at the least. Spectral effects occur in a large radius around her if she has more Resonance, and at the highest level that this can go for Secret, natural animals flee her very presence.
- Conduit - An abyssal forgets what they once liked about someone or something, the intimacy destroyed, perhaps even inverted into hate.
- Stigmata - The Abyssal is shown for what they truly are, their unholy power flaring up around them visibly. While this is something that happens to Exalts normally when they use powerful abilities, at higher levels of Resonance this curse will actually cause physical harm to the Abyssal.
Abyssal Exalts also are nauseous and uncomfortable in the lands of the living, which can only be solved by surrounding themselves with things ritualistically associated with death. Secret, for example, sleeps in a coffin, wears all black, etc.
